RACING NOTES
ANOTHER SALE Foreign Princess, the half-sister to Foreign Coin, Gyneriuin, has been sold by Mr D. Kemp to Mr W. Duncan, the price mentioned being £500. GOOD TRACK WORK Rarotonga, the best hurdler around Auckland last season, and who had to be taken out of work subsequent upon falling on the Ellerslie main highway, is again executing very satisfactory track work. PROGRESSIVE The Waikato Racing Club has decided to increase the prize' money for its next meeting by £650. GALLOPING FREELY The Buzzer, an Auckland Cup winner, is again among the track workers at Awapuni, and is galloping very freely. APPROPRIATELY NAMED The two year old colt by Mr Standfast—Highland Queen, trained by E. J. Murtagli at Te Awamutu, will be raced under the name of Royal Master. HYPERION SIRE PURCHASED Mr S. Levin, of Wellington, who lately purchased the high grade sire Robin Good-fellow in England, has now secured for the Dominion a son of the successful English sire, Hyperion. The purchase amount mentioned is £2500. A REAL PEACH The Mesdames Stead's filly by Man's Pal from Dioretta, will raced in the name of Palora. She may, or may not, havet been named after the leading Australian peach "Palora." EARLY SPEED Reports from Sydney are to the effect that Beau Vite appears to have tost his early speed, but is sound nnd wel'l and in due course may race prominently in distance events. HE LIKES THE COURSE The Muskctoon representative, Gladynev, has raced at Awapuni, Palmerston North, three times and has been victorious on each occasion. There is an old saying "Horses for courses," and Gladynev evidently backs this up. SPRINTING BRILLIANTLY At E'llerslie the Combria Park representative, LlandafT, has been sprinting very brilliantly. Hei gallops better on firm tracks, and may not be seen out under racing colours until later in the season. FOR THE EPSOM The Wanganui owned Algerian, tvho has been in the south over three tveeks awaiting shipment to Australia, has been very solidly backed by New Zealand supporters to win the Epsom Handicap. AUCKLAND SPRING MEETING The Auckland Racing Club's Spring fixture is toi be held, on October 11 and 13. At present the! Ellerslie buildings are being used for n temporary military hospital; and therei is quite a possibility of the meeting being staged at Avondale. A decision will be arrived at in the course of a few days. GAR VAALS RESUMES The Morrinsvil-le owned Gar Vaals, p. steeplechaser of merit, is again in work at Te Rapa. During the autumn and early winter he competed over the big jumps, but had his full share of falls. He appears to be all the be>tter fo.r his recent spell, and more than likely will make amends for past mistakes. NOT DOING WELL The speedy and consistent Monte Gristo, taken over to Sydney by R. S. Bagby with Kindergarten and Duvaich, has,pot been doing well in his new location. There is not talk, however, of sending him back to New Zealand, so Australian sportsmen may yet see him in galloping action. GETTING INTO FORM Lou Rosa, who last season had the distinction of being runner-up in the Great Northern Derby and St. Leger Stakes at Ellerslie toi Kindergarten, is working, nicely on the Te Aroha tracks, and will compete in short events this week at the Poverty Bay meeting. A PROMISING COLT At the National Sales, 1911, a colt by Foxbridgc from the Chief Ruler mare Pelagia, was purchased by Mr 11. N. Barlow, of Clrristchurch, at 500 guineas. He has now been named Foxhaven, and is a member of the team presided over by C. Emerson, at 11 ice art on.
