WOMEN'S INSTITUTE

OTAKIRI MEETINGS The 1 monthly meeting of the Olakiri Women's Itnstitute was held in August with a good attendance of members and friends. Mrs Rutherford read a letter from the new Institute Link in England, and the Golden Thread, Taranaki, from "Pioneer Tales," was read by Mrs Whiteside. Mesdames Rickard and Cobden demonstrated the making of Daisy Mats, The afternoon was brought to a close with tea, served by Mesdames Hampton and Winters. The competition winners were. Marmalade, Mrs W. J. Murray 1, Mirs Oris tall 2, Mrs Woodberry 3. Sponge RoH, Mrs Gristair 1, Mrs Tickner 2, Mrs Rutherford 3. Best Flower, Mrs Tickner 1 and 2, Mrs Woodberry 3. The Institute met again on Sep tember 3rd in the O'takiri Hall. At the conclusion of the business, Mrs Tickner read the Golden Thread, a chapter on Lake Moana, from Pioneer Tales. This was followed by a reading of the very entertaining play "The Brown Paper Parcel," by Mesdames Crista.ll and Whiteside. Afternoon tea brought an enjoyable meeting to a close. The competition winners were: Collection { of Bulbs, Mrs Tickner 1, Mrs Whiteside 2, Miss I. Murray 3>. Gingernuts, Mrs Tickner 1, Mrs Cristall 2. Best Flower, Mrs Tickner 1 and 3, Mrs Whiteside 2.
