At Monday's meeting of the Borough Council Gr W. Sullivan suggested that the Works Committee should keep in view the proposed sewerage scheme for the town —a service which was a long felt want In Whakatane. He suggested that the committee should engage some of its time in exploring schcmes. "We cannot go on with it now, but we have to face up to the scheme sooner or later and it would be wise to be Avell prepared," he said.
Continuing he said the last scheme prepared would now be too small for the town's needs, but another could be prepared and might ne proceeded with alter the war as a means of providing employment for some returned men.
The Mayor stated that recently he had met the Health Inspector, had discussed the scheme, and, while the Inspector did not intend to foice the council to go on with the installation of sewerage, lie had suggested that everything should be in icadiness for a commencement when times were opportune. His Worship added that it was indicated that a cheaper scheme; than the one previously suggested would be available.
