DAIRY COY CARTAGE
Sir, —Regarding your editorial on the resolution passed at the recent Rangitaiki Plains Dairy Company meeting in favour of the company going, in for a general carrying business. It seems to me that the company is doing a good bit of carrying now, and it would not harm anyone to "go the whole, hog." Some suppliers make good use of the company's cream lorries, not to mention the time of the drivers, to get substantial quantities of gocds in sacks delivered at their cream stands, thus saving cartage: and doing the local carriers out of a bit of business. But what's wrong with .that? So it is only a step further to cut out the delivery of goods on the cream lorries and let the company get into, business as a straight-out general carrier. Anyway, if those who oppose the idea were to have a spell at driving the cream lorries and delivering a ton or so of sacks of goods each morning, I 1 think they would soon be in favour of such bulky lines being handled by the company's general carrying driver. Bosides this the company will have to do something for the cheese suppliers who will no longer be able to get delivery per cream lorry. I think it is a step in the right direction, even if the Beacon is not so sure about it. Yours etc., INTERESTED.
