UNADDRESSED GIFT PARCELS
APPRECIATED BY MEN IN THE MIDDLE EAST The appreciation of the men themselves at the receipt cif the latest consignment of unaddressed gifl parcels to reach the Middle East and also of the selection and packing of the contents in New Zealand is expressed in the troops' own newspaper, the N.Z.EI.F. Times, of August 4. "Last week quarter-master sergeants in various sections of the Second N.Z.E.F. —figuratively only— assumed long white beards and intense benignity of expression!," the paper states, "and set about the distribution of the latest consignment of patriotic parcels received from New Zealand. It was a big occasion for the quarter-blokes, as well as for the men, and it would have inspired the well-wishers at home who packed those very welcome parcels could they huv? witnessed the keen anticipation with which the'r gifts were unpacked and the pleasure With which the}* were received." "Once again the contents of the parcels showed a practical appreciation of the needs of the men. Enclosed in many of them were notes asking that the patriotic committees responsible should be advised whether they were acceptable or not and what improvements cou'd be effected in their selection. The "excellent condition in which Lhc great majority of the gifts arrived reflected the care with which packing had been carried out in New Zealand before dispatch."
