WORLD OF SPORT

BRISK BUSINESS Last week at Palmerston North three bookmakers were brought be-< fore the court and lined in the aggregate £125. The first on the list had recorded no Tesis than 195 bers in one day, and as remarked by the Magistrate, "Business must have been brisk indeed." OHINEMURI PROGRAMME The Ohinemuri Racing Club will hold its spring meeting at Paerfta on September 27 and 29. The two principal events on the programme arc the Poland Cup, of £400, and President's Handicap of £300A. SATISFACTORY RESULT The Waipa Racing Club, Te Awamutu, which holds two meetings each year, made a net profit of £553 in the 1940-41 season. TOP OF HIS FORM The Paeroa owned Conflagration, winner of both steeplechases at the Thames meeting, continued his winning career by being victorious in the Egmont-Wanganui Hunt Cup. He accounted for a field of ten. including the liawke's Bay Steeplechaser of merit, Cherry, Plum. KINDERGARTEN UNFORTUNATE The New Zealand champion Kindergarten made his Australian debut at the Warwick Farm meeting on Saturday in the Warwick Stakes of seven furlongs. There Ave re seven starters including High Caste, Lucrative and Freckles. The race was won by High Caste witli Freckles second, while Kindergarten and Lucrative dead-heated for third place. The result was no indication of Kindergarten's galloping ability, lor shrewd judges are of the opinion that Wiggins was out-generalled by the Australian riders. Firstly he was blocked and afterwards pocketed. The time 1.25}/4secs showed the pace was solid all the way. The New Zealand representative may be all the better for the race, and over a longer distance, providing the rider gets a clear run, he may make amends before many weeks have passed. ALGERIAN FOR AUSTRALIA The Wanganui owned Algerian. hy Beau Pere—Zarene, after competing at Awapuni, is to be shipped to Sydney. He is very forward in respect to racing condition, and properly placed should pay his way. TWO PALS Among the two year olds at Takanini is the colt by Man's Pal from Palestrina. This half brother to The Cardinal has been named Two Pals, and he is highly regarded by good Auckland judges of the noble thoroughbred. THE WAIKATO HUNT Mr A. Tronson has been appointed liandicapper to the Waikato Hunt Club which holds its annual race meeting at Cambridge on Labour Day. SALE OF PRINCE REWA Mr James Clothier, of Matamata, has sold the Spear Dance—Lady Rewa gelding, Prince Rewa, to Mr A. H. Roan, of the same district. Last season the horse had two wins out of six starts.

| THE AVONDALE CUP The Wanganui entrant, Amigo, heads the list in the Avon dale Cup with 9.0. He is a class horse and therefore fairly treated. Next comes Radiant Vaals 8.13, Young Paddon 8.12, King Rcy 8.10, all good pepformers in reccnt months. Rakanui, Clipper and Noble Fox are called upon to give weight to The Cardinal 8.6 who in June Avon the Cornwall Handicap. Of those lower m the list with chances are Lovaals 8.0, Winsome Lu and Sir Clameron 7.10, British Talent 7.5, Vaimint 7.4 and Algerian 7.0. WEIGHT STOPS THEM After winning steeplechases at Thames and New Plymouth Conflagration was allotted 11.13 for the Taranaki Hunt Club Cup, but the weight told its tale, and the Illumination gelding finished "well out of a place. In the Waihi Handicap at the same meeting Hinklcr carried 9.8 and was beaten into third place by Time True 8.4 and Lucky Lulu 8.13. Weight again was not in favour of Hinkler.
