VISIT TO CHEESE FACTORY

On Friday morning members of the Whakatane Harbour Boar«l made a tour of inspection of the. river and Heads on board the Pbrtl Whakatane. Erosion Damage The erosion at Landing Roatl which is giving considerable concern to the Borough Council was inspected on the way up the river, while groins built# in other localities to prevent damage were also visited and found to be fulfilling their purpose. / Visit to Cheese Factory The party went ashore at the Paper Mills wharf and was met by Mr W. A. McCracken, chairman of directors of the Rangitaiki Dairy Coy, the secretary and other members. The cheese factory being fitted for use attracted much interest and the proposed improvements to the wharf were discussed.j When the factory commences operations in its aim to produce) 1600 . tons of cheese in the first season the product will be shipped to Auckland by scow and therefore better facilities than those existing will be required far the handling of the crates. .< Wall at Heads » The erosion damage at the Heads was explained and the wall which has had to be considerably extended found to be now satisfactory. Members were amazed to find that sea action had lowered the beach to such a great extent. The level of the beach near the parking area is now about twelve feet lowsr than it was some months ago.

Local Pilot Broadcasts Serge'ant Pilot Jack Hauesle*, who is now in Scotland, had the privilege of speaking over the air yesterday, but unfortunately the announcer introduced liim as "Jack Hamilton" and thus confused many of his friends who are interested in his career.
