ITALIAN NAVY
"Since the start of the Avar four of II Duce's battleships liaA r e been hit—■three at Taranto in the celebrated November raid and one at Cape Matapan. But only two can now be safely considered out of action—the 35,000 tonner hit at Cape Matapan and one of the older Contp di Cavour class of 23,600 tonners airtorpedoed at the entrance to Taranto harbour. The others, a 35,000-tonner and a 23,600-tonner, should have been repaired by noA\ r . "Three of se\'en heavy cruisers have also been sunk. The destruction of lighter vessels, however, is proportionately much less. AlloAving for units that ha\"e probably been completed, Italy must now haA r e 13 light cruisers, two to four of the over-sized destroj r ers, 56 sLroyers, 64 torpedo beats;, and 90 submarines.
"Mussolini thus still has. lefi plenty of light vessels and submarines."—Ncav York, P.M.
