WHAKATANE RECRUITS
AIR FORCE INSTRUCTION
HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS
When the instruction by correspon dence of candidates for the Air. Force was commenced shortly after Hie outbreak of Avar the local District High School was the first, oj among the first, to offer its services. At first evening classes were arranged but this proved unworkable as country candidates could not attend and even local men were not always free on the evening chosen. Individual instruction as required was arranged and is still in operation, both Mr and Mrs J. E. Rigelow giving iiny assistance required. Very little is needed as the courscs arc excellent. The Headmaster, Mr Southey, it;?reed to supervise all examinations tnid has done so to date except for times when it has been impossible for him to do so. On these occasions Mir Rigelow has acted for him. A widespread area is covered candidates from Toa Toa to Papamo^ l and intervening districts having attended. Examination!? are being held tonight 25th and to-morrow night. Mr Bigelow supervising.
All this service, both instruction and supervision is given without nriv remuneration whatever and is of considerable value both to the Air Force and the district as a whole for focal candidates are able to take the examination in their home town arid have not to travel to other centres.
Candidates sitting at present *\ve C. Corbett. R. S. France, R. P. Wool field, W. Haimona.
