GOAL SUPPLIES
SHORTAGE STILL ACUTE
"Goal supplies in Hamilton are short but inquiry shows that Uic position is little or no worse than at the beginning of August a year ago. Households arc restricted to one bag at a time and distributors find that they have to take what they can get as regards class of coal, kitchen or household.
A' distributor remarked that one obstacle causing concern was ' the supply of petrol for trucks delivering coal. He had to supply his regular customers with one bag ol coal at a time, where'as formerly lie could give them three bags. The curtailment necessitated so many more trips that petrol consumption was much greater than formerly, thereby adding to distribution costs.
Supplies have been maintained for essential services such as railways, dairy factories and gasworks; but household supplies arc subject to a form of rationing.
With the approach of milder weather conditions consumption of coal will s!acken, and the distributors hope to be able to meet all normal requirements of their customers.
