DOUGLAS ST. BRIDGE

RENEWAL CONSIDERED

CONCRETE; STRUCTURE SUGGESTED

During the month the foremanengineer to the Borough, Mr W. S. Henderson, submitted a plan to the council with estimates; of cost for

the proposed new traffic bridge In Douglas Street. He stated that the bridge with concrete abutments, steel girders and heart of rimu deck-

ing would cost £227, with approximately £40 extra for hardwood deck-

ing. An all concrete bridge he estimated to cost £310.

The Works Committee considered

that for the extra cost the concrete structure would be most suitable and would actually be a cheaper proposition. It was the recommendation ,of the Committee that the bridge be built in concrete.

However, His Worship the Mayor stated that since the meeting of tlie committee the foreman-engineer had said that probably more piles would be required and he Avould have to revise his estimate.

The matter was therefore liel:l over for further consideration.
