LADIES' REST ROOM
FACILITY ABUSED
MAYOR'S DISCOVERY
That he had! visited 1 the Ladies Rest Room on request on Monday of last week and found it in a disgusting condition was reported to the Borough Council by His Worship the Mayor on Monday night. There had 1 been remains of fish, empty beer booties, peanut shells and filthypaper littered throughout the rooms, while the entrance hadi been shockingly misused, added Mr Barry, who stated that as a
result of his investigations it had been ascertained that natives had been responsible for the state of the building.
"These women have been warned and on occasions told to clean the rooms," lie said, "but as soon as supervision is relaxed then the trouble recurs." Mr Barry continued to state that the nuisance did not occur on Fridays, but on Saturday when the rooms were used chiefly by Maoris the trouble occurred.
Continuing he said that as a result of his investigations lie had ordered the rooms to be closed from noon on Saturday, adding that no inconvenience would be caused the majority of people and the travelling public had acccss to facilities other than
nside the rooms
"If these people cannot treat the facilities -decently then they should not be allowed to use them at all," agreed Cr W. Sullivan. He added that respect should be shown for the buildings and perhaps the attention of the police could be drawn to the misuse taking place. He moved that the Mayor's! action be endorsed and his motion was carried.
