Increase in Householders. Usually a count of householders in a town is taken, annually by the Post and Telegraph Department, but owing to staff shortage it is now being taken when convenient. Recently a re-count veas taken in Whakatane and revealing that the town is making rapid progress it was found that in a period of approximately two years the number of houses occupied had increased by, twenty-five per cent. Farm Work in the Rain. Men must work, and cows must be milked, and fed with hay on <;he farms even in stormy weather such as Whakatane district has experienced -during the past week. On occasions' like this local farmers read with mixed feelings that work on Ihe city waterfront Avas suspended on Avct days. Unfortunately for tjV men on the land the job of filling the mouths of cows will) hay lias to go on in rain or fine, CA T en though the job of filling the holds of shfps can wait a day.
