Shortages in Australia. War shortages were only now beginning to be felt in Aiistralia, said Mr J. L. Hay, giving impressions of a recent visit to Australia in an address to the Christehurch Businessmen's ' Club. "'Huge reserve stocks were bought up by firms at the beginning of the Avar, as they wore not subjected to the drastic and unfair restrictions imposed irs> New Zealand. One firm, I was told, had reserve stocks totalling £700,000," he said. New Zealand women ~ould cast envious eyes on the huge stocks of hosiery available in Australia at priccs which "could not be looked at here."
