SPEEDING OUTPUT
UNITED STATES PLANE PRODUCTION Production of military aircraft in the United States has mounted slowly but steadily and in May was <tt a rate of more than 16,000 units yearly. By late autumn the rate of production is expected to "top 30,000 annually and by the middle of n'ext year to reach the 40,000 mark. During the first five months of this year 5947 military planes of all types were produced, about equaV to the output of the entire industry for the full year of 1940. Since last July aviation plants in U.S.A. have produced 11,647 military planes. The following table shows military plane production by months since Jufy, 1940:— July 547 August 586* September 670 Octobcr 742 November 779 December 900 January 1036 February .. 972 March 1216 April 1389 May 1334.; June 1476' Total 11,647 The best available estimates of Germany's output of these and< all other types of warplanes remain only estimates. And they range all the way from 8000 to 6000 a month. Perhaps the real figure is near 3000 or at least midway between it isid the higher mark.
