RACING NOTES
HALF-BROTHER TO BEAU LEON Mr E.. Cucksey, of Te Awamulju, has recently sent to Alex Cook's training establishment a rising two-year-old by Foxbridge from Lady Bede, therefore a half-brother to Beau Leon. He is already being highly assessed and will be cxpected to have a victorious career. TRAINED BY A. TINKER In some quarters' H. E. has been credited with being the Irainer of Dauber, a winner at AWapuni. This is incorrect, as Dauber is trained by A. Tinker a't Takanini, but owing to the latter being unable to attend the Manawatu meeting the horse was sent down in charge '.of Gray, who also had The Dozer and Surpai at the fixture. KING HAS GOOD ONE The King's colt, by Bah ram—My* "tobella, has won two races this season in convincing style, and it is. claimed that he is the best two year old seen out in England this season. Is is to be hoped that this is not wishful thinking, as there would be unexampled enthusiasm if His; Majesty had a Derby winner next season. DENSITY'S BROTHER The rising 'tAvo year old brother to Density, trained by D. Cotton for Mr D. Grant, has attracted much notice since being sent to Riccarton. He stands well off the ground, and is likely to develop into a big horse. He at present closety resembles his speedy relation, who is being given the run of a paddock and stabled at night, and lie will probably be kept to the treatment for some time yet. JOCKEYS OVERSEAS Several horsemen avill be absent fiom this year's Grand National meeting owing 'to military dutiesW. Jenkins, who Avon both the Trial Hurdles and Grand National Hurdles on Limbohm, is overseas, as is W. E. Pine. Pine is a batman to « padre. A CUP EACH Last year when Baltruin and Valens dead-heated in the Hunt Cup at Waimate, Messrs W. E. Hazlett and 1. Mitchell tossed for possession of the trophy. On Saturday when Vaiens dead-liea'ted with another Soutlitander (Pride o* Central), no toss was called for, the committee deciding to provide another cup and to present one to cacli oAvner. VETERAN SUCCEEDS Made Money, avlio has been patched up by J. Thistleton, to Avin the hurdle race at Waimate, is rising twelve. He had not been successful since he paid a big dividend in t : he principal flat race at Ashburton in the spring of 1938. TRACK UNSUITABLE Haughty Winner Avas, at Waimate on Saturday, but after inspecting the track his trainer decided not to start him. Haugh'ty Winner ran second in the Winter Cup last year Vo Lady Tinkle and is engaged in the race again next month. FIRST OF THE DINKS The rising lavo year old filly by Beau Pere's half brother Dink, from Royal* Potoa, has been named Royal Dink. He will be one of the first of Dink's progeny to carry the colours in public. A SYDNEY LOCATION When R. S. Bagby takes Kindergarten, Monte Cristo and Duvach over to Sydney they are to be located in the stables of M. Poison, but the training Avilli be supervised by Bagby. TO RESUME EARLY That very successful hurdler, Raratonga, who registered six consecu-tiA'-e wins OA'er 'the battens from January to April, and then met with an accident by slipping on the pa\red road at Ellerslie has iioav suiliciently recovered to be giA r en walking exercise. It is confidently anticipated that he maj' again be carrying the colours in the earty spring. FROM ROTORUA Trainer L. Ru tterworth, who this season has been located at Rotorua, has transferred his team of seAen to Ellerslie. The principal members thereof are T'npeotu, Nyoki, Nata] a tAA r o year old by Lord Quex —Lady Diadem and one of similar age by Night Raid —Sih'er Grey. THE IMPROVING TIDE WAITER Since winning at AAA'apuni in June the New Ph'iuouth trained TidcAvaitcr, has still further improved, an d his chance of preA r ailing over the opposition in the Grand National Hurdles is considered to be very bright indeed.
