TRESPASS CHARGE

DEER STALKERS FINED HUNTING WITHOUT PERMIT ''The first point is that experienc--cd men should know better tlian gri into a forestry reserve, and the sec-i ond is that they should fully realise Ihe danger to the areas. Damage of incalculable nature could be caused, -and the fact that these men camd from outside Rotorua is no excuse for them not having local knowledge on the matter," stated Mr W. H. Freeman, S.M., in the Rotorua Magistrate's Court when dealing •with cases where men had entered the State Forest reserve without a permit, and were also charged with hunting animals in the area without authority. Ernest Delaliunty, farmhand, and •John Waterhouse, butcher, of WhaIcatane, were faced with both counts, white Frank Reeve Canning, also of Whakatane, was charged with both ■offences on two separate occasions. Delahunty and Waterhouse were lined £5 with 12s, and 10s respectively on the first charge and convictied and ordered to pay IOsI costs each on the second. Canning was fined £5 and 10s costs on the two charges of entering a forestry reserve- without authority, and convicted and ordeteljlo pay 10s costs on each of the charges of hunting without a :rrjit.
