Constable G. H. Thomasen, . of Dfmnevirke, has arrived to take up duty with the local Police Force. The death occurred yesterday of Mr W. P. Browne, one of Whaka-t tnne's oldest residents. He had been ilTr for some weeks and his death was not unexpected. Mr Lance Bennett, eldest son of Mr and Mrs L. Bennett. Soutar'." was home on leave during the Aveek-end. He is serving w''l.h the Mercantile Navy and is attached to H.M. Hospital Ship No. 1.. Constable G. A. McCurrach has received notice o>f his transfer from Gisborne to Opotilu, and is expected to Gisborne shortly. Constable McCurrach has been attached lo the Gisborne station for the past six years, going there from Auckland. He joined the force in 1928, 3oing to Auckland in that year from the training depot at Wellington.
