POWER CONSUMERS

CONNECTIONS IN BAY BOARD DISTRICT Reporting to the monthly meeting of the Bay of Plenty Electric. Power Board, Mr J. D. Dicker, engineermanager, gave the following resume of the consumers and installation connected up to June 30, with Figures for the past two months collectively:— During May and June 15 new do* mestic installations were made, 18 reconnected while 33 were disconnected making the total 2041. There were 15 new ranges, G reconnecte.l and 6 disconnected the total being 810.. In the commercial class five re-> connections were made bringing the tally to 342, while there are 208 commercial mo f ors operating. One industrial installation was; disconnected in thei period under review lowering the total to 8. The total dairy installations are 744. Last month one dairy motor was re-connected while three ceased to operate, the number of motors at present consuming power being 736. Dairy water heaters number 653, six being connected to' balance the same number now unused. Separator motors figure 424, and skim pump motors. 39. There are to date 465 water sup-i ply pumps in action, in the month oT May and: June two being, added and two withdrawn. Swamp pumps total 42. making altogether 546 using power. The total of consumers, in thei Bay district has increased slightly there being 14 added while 12 have disconnected, making the grand total 2159, and thei connected load in K.W. 10796. Reticulation Overhaul. The systematic inspection and overhaul of the board's reticulation is being carried on. A !*arge portion of the Whakatane area has been dealt with, and where defective or doubtful insulators or equipment is detected, replacements are being effected. From the indications to date, this work has forestalled a number of power interruptions with ri resultant saving in expensive maintenance costs, and probabl? serious inconvenience to consumers reduced to a minimum.—Power Board Engineer's report.
