ONE THOUSAND IN ADVANCE

THERE is every reason for the people of the Whakatane sub-district to be proud of the results of the recent 'All Purposes Appeal' details of which were printed last Friday, and revealed an over-subsciription of £1400. Whakatane has earned reason for congratulation, and it is with pleasure that we mention the splendid effort put up by the Edgecumbe committee. In practically every instance the allocations were exceeded, even the Maori (Ngatiawa) quota. The excess will thus constitute a splendid nest egg as the basis of the next district appeal, to be made under the local Patriotic Society.
