NEWLY-MARRIED MEN
DUTIES EXPLAINED __ BIRTH OF CHILD TO BE NOTIFIED Enrolment of married men as members of the. Second Division of the General Reserve is proceeding rapidly and many of the new members have already received their enrolment cards. Therei are some, however, who are in doubt regarding what is required of them, as they have married since enrolling in the First Division. Many men who were called for service in the First Division and Were rejected, for military service have since married, and as the constitution of the Second Division calls for the enrolment of all married men between the ages of 13 and 46 years, the question has arisen as to whether those who enrolled previously should iio so again. The position has been explained as follows :— Members of the First Division who m:irried since May 1, 1940, and who have been called for overseas service and rejected are no longer reservists. As soon as they were gazetted for overseas service they became, and still remain, members nf the Armed Forces and as such ore not required to re-register. Married members of the First Division who have not been called for overseas service are still liable to be called as members of thp First Division andi are consequently not required fo re-register if there is no child of the marriaget. Married members of the First Division to whom a child has been born are entitled to enter the. Sfe'cond Division, but are not auto matically transferred, unless thev notify the Director of National Service of* the birth of the child, whereupon steps will be taken to eifect the transfer to th© Second Division. The balloting of a man for Territorial service does not affect the position as stated.
