DEFIED COMMANDER OF U-BOAT
SPANISH CAPTAIN ORDERED TO GIVE UP CREW. The BBC said the Spanish ship \vas proceeding to New York when it picked up an SOS signal from a British vessel. The captain then took his ship 300 miles off its course to pick up survivors. "Shortly afterwards.," the BBC said, "the German submarine which had torpedoed the British vessel stopped the ship and demanded the surrender of its prisoners. "But the captain of the Spanish vessel refused to hand themi over and was allowed to proceed."
