IN EGYPT
MANY LETTERS ARRIVING BOYS OF THE FIFTH Numerous letters from local boys who were members of the Fifth Rcfnforcements, and who are now in Egypt, have come to hand. We pleased to publish extracts for tho benefit of those Avho are following the movements of the troops. Pte. H. L. Heatlay, who was U i morally a member of the BEACON literary staff, writes: "P met many )f the Whakatane boys on the ship, nnd with the reinforcement still together I still see some of them about —the Y.M.C'.A. being a great place to meet chaps. Buster Tippett, exacting Sergeant in the Orderly Room, is now Lance-Corporal, yet to go through the ordeal of the School of Instruction. Inncs Wool-! liams is buzzing about and so is; yo-ung Doug. Wilson. I saw Rob Stewart in the distance, but did not have the chance of speaking to him. The voyage out was long and tiresome. but not altogether unenjoyflble, and I'm not altogether frightened of the way back. As Jim Cutler said: "I would go back on bottom boards of a cattle boat."
