NEARLY READY The Sotfth Canterbury steeplechaser, Slayer, who had his first race for many months at the recent Dunedin meeting, isl expected to be a much improved horse for the Wellington meeting. Last year at Trentliam he was in the money, and can handle the clay track there very capably. A SPEEDY SPRINTER The Oration gelding, Cora to, raced for the past two seasons by Mr E. Murtagh, of Te Awamutu, has | been purchased by Mr J. T. Edmunds, of Ellerslie, who now has j four horses in commission. j O'ER HILL AND DALE j The thirteen year old Day Comet gelding Allegretto, winner of the Bay of Plenty Steeplechase, has been worked during the winter over the Waikato roads; and liillsi. This mode of training appears to have suited the veteran, who has yet .time this winter to add to his winning score. AN ENFORCED REST In work at Trentham during the winter was Gamble—a rising two-year-old ealt by Croupier—Cuddle. THE WINTER HURDLES Especially good work is being executed. at Hastings by Majority, and his chance of winning the Winter Hurdles at Trentliam is being very highly assessed. A PICNIC MEETING The Matamata Racing Club is arranging to hold a picnic non-tote meeting on Saturday, July, li) at which both galloping and trotting events will be on the programme. The profit over the meeting will be devoted to the Patriotic Fund. REMAINING NORTH The Auckland owned Lockheed, trained by G. Ridgwav, at Riecarton, was brought north in company with Streamline and Arctic Dawn. In Wanganui Lord CaA r endish is considered to be a very likely candidate to take part in the finishing stages of the event. Wellington will again be; represented by last year's avinner, Lady Tinkle. The Auckland representation aa t ill be decided upon after it is seen hoAV they perform at the Trentliam gathering in July. THE WELLINGTON MEETING Year after year Auckland horses are taken to the Wellington Winter meeting, and generally succeed in winning their share of the Trentliam prize money.
