TO BUILD 60 SHIPS
AUSTRALIAN GOVERNMENT SHIPBUILDING BOARD'S REPORT Construction of at least 60 standard merchant ships in Australia was suggested as the first objective when the Commonwealth Government appointed a Shipbuilding Board, and after'a survey of resources the Board reported that such a programme presented no insuperable difficulties in spite of heavy demands on ma. chine tools and skilled men. The Board recommended an immediate start on thrae and the expansion of existing facilities to cope with a bigger output.
