PERSONAL
Those present at yesterday's meeting of the Whakatane County Council were G'rs J. L. Burnett (chairman), A. F. MicGougan, H. G. McCrcady, C. T. Smith, R. F. Wardlaw, D. W. Spcnce, F. J. Burt, T. G. H. Cawte, G. H. Brebncr (engineer) and G. G. Lucas (clcrk). Leave of absence was granted Crs W. A. McCracken and L. W. Luxton. Before business commenced at yesterday's meeting of the County Council, the chairman, Mr J. L. Burnett, referred to the loss of a council employee, Mr A. O. Stewart, whose son, Lieut. Horton Stewart, had made the supreme sacrifice overseas. Mr Burnett referred to the late Lieut. Stewart as a highly respected resident of Whakatane of cheerful personality, a good sport and generally a popular member of the community. It was decided to express sympathy with his wife and parents. (
