CASUALTY CLEARING STATIONS

THE appeal for £300 for the purpose of establishing a network of casualty clearing stations in the country districts, under the Emergency Precautions Scheme, is not designed to spread panic or concern*; A little quiet thinking will convince readers of the obvious need for such provision to safeguard against any confusion, should a state of emergency ever arise. This does not necessarily mean that such a state can only be caused by war. The stations would be immediately brought into force through any catastrophe of a major nature, earthquake;, flood, fire, tidal wave, etc. Thus in making the appeal the members of the medical committee feel that have a perfect right to call upon the people to help themselves by the early establishing and equipping of these district depots. The subscription list started in to-day' sissue, shows the sum of £24 already subscribed. The appeal is to all, and we make no apologies in soliciting donations for a purpose which is dedicated to the benefit of the public of this town and provides them with an opportunity of directly assisting themselves.
