VISIT OF MINISTER
HON. A. H. NORDMEYER AT WHAKATANE HOSPITAL AND MILLS • INSPECTED The Minister of Health, the Hon. A. H. Nordmeyer, visitedWhakatane on Saturday, where he was met by ihe chairman; of the Hospital Board and conduct— ed through the local public ho®- \ piital. The Milnister expressed • pleasure at the progress the hos- ' pital had made and in reply to ' to the chairman of the Board j' gave his assurance that th© I matter of hospital rating would. 1 • be fully gone into. He agreed that the rating system was in need of alteration. Mills Visited Following his visit to the hoSpitaF the Minister was met by Mr A. J. Canning, of the Borough wlio drove him to the paper mills, where the party was met by Mr Horrocks, manager and other senior officers and made an interesting tour of the mills. The process of making a five-ply wall board was watched, a start being made where? the logs were barked and the various stages of the process; explained; until the finished article emerged! from the machines. Mr Nordmeyer stated that although he had heard much of the mills from Lieut. Gordon Hultquist he was very impressed with the efficiency and magnitude of the? industry in Whakatane. In the evening the Minister was met by His Worship, the Mayor, while he also received several deputations.
