EVENING OF DRAMA

PLAYS PERFORMED Last Monday night two plays were performed by members of the Drama Circle, the meanbers dressing for the parts. The first play was "Respectable Facade." The cast for which was MissH. Pemberton (Mrs G. Thomas) Miss Harriet Pemberton, (Mrs; S. Spenc-e), Mrsi Walgrove (Mrs Vercoe), Mr Swallow (Mrs Runciman). The other play was "An Imaginary Aunt." Mrs Jerringliam. (Mrs Littlejohn), Mavis (Mirs Vercoe), Rosanna (Mrs E. , Ajrmstrong), Chanty (Mrs Cole). A war-time supper was afterwards served. Those present were : Mrs G. Otley, Mrs Appleby, Mrs P. Sisafri, Mrs E. Armstrong,; Mrs "Vercoe, Mrs Littlejolin, Mrs Spepce, Mrs Thomas,. Mrs Runciman, Mrs A. Cole, Mrs C. Thomas, Misses Sutherland, Allen, and Tait. L '

In the course of his opening speech last Wednesday, the slioav president, Mr A. J. Canning, stated that he regretted the absence of the M.P. for the district, Lieut Gordon Hultquist. They had however called on the good offices of the Rotorua representative- Mr A. F. Moncur. who was always glad to act in ftis stead. Mr. Canning said he took the opportunity of wishing Mr Hultquist a safe return home to his family after his service to his countrv in a military capacity had expired. Gymnasts at the Show. The visiting troupe of gymnasts from Auckland AA'ere a welcome addition to the proceedingst at tha Slioav. The men were seen again in the evening when they contributed to the success of the impromptu concert by putting on the act of the programme, in a speeial ten minutes of stunting, somersaulting and cloAvning. The' antics of one member avlio rode round the stage on a single Avheel Avere worth. coming a long Avay to see and constituted a very clever and beAVildering act. t
