Streamline has done well since arriving at Ellerslie, Gold Spot is not considered to have played his best card yet, while Tidewaiter is improving day by day, and ! should at least be suited to the distance. Beverley, Dark Rose, Clansman, Bellst of Bow 9.0. THE NORTHERN STEEPLECHASE The Great Northern Steeplechase of £2000, to be run over three miles and three-quarters at Ellerslie on Wednesday, is an event to fully test the staying capabilities of the contestants especially as the hill has lo be traversed three times. The race should be a very fine one to witness, as the top Weight is only 10.10 not 13.2 as allotted to Clarion Call at Wanganui. ■ The top weight, Streamline, is a powerful customer, a safe jumper and a fine stayer, while the fact that he will be piloted by his trainer, G. Ridgway, is much in his favour. Gar Vaals, 10.6, is a very fine jumptil*, but the last half mile may steady him somewhat. Aussie Ra, 10.4, won at Hawera, but is not ever consistent as a performer. Bridegroom, 10.3, winner of the three miles Te Rapa Steeplechase in 6inin 14sees, will be ridden by A. Jenkins. He may bq very hard to beat. King Rey is an unlikely starter and three that may be in the final stages to keep Streamline and Bridegroom up to their work may be En Tour, Baldric and Dozie Boy.
