RACING NOTES
A SOUND RECORD Royal Lancer, winner of the principal event at Washdyke, has won 11 races this season, and. has run three seconds and two thirds in 24 starts. His dam, Winsome Sister, is by Some Boy 11., from Sister Regis, by Charlemagne 11. from St. Regis, b3 r Hotchkiss from St. Evelyn by St. Leger. Royal Lancer was bred by his owner, Mr W. Swale, of Southland. SACCONE PULLED UP The Great Northern Hurdles candidate, Saccone, who has not been over-raced in hurdle events, was produced in the Waikato Hurdles, but his supporters were to be disappointed as the chestnut gelding had not gone far in the race before his rider pulled him up. It was thought he had suffered a sudden heart attack, but Later lie seemed to be all right again, and hopes are held that he will be able to race at Ellerslie. At 9.4 Saccone has been given a great chance in the Northern Hurdles asi he stays well. CRACK "CHASER DESTROYED Airgead Sios. England's most colourftil steeplechaser, broke down while exercising at Epsom and was destroyed. Bred by a priest in Ireland, and sold by him for £300, he succeeded Golden Miller as the best draw in England. He ran in 26 races of which he won 13. Airgead Sios started only once in the Grand National and failed to get round. PROMISING JUMPER The Awapuni trainer L. Knapp. invariably has a useful jumper in his team, and apparently his latest recruit to the ranks of steeplechasers, Hornpipe j is a welcome additions Miaking his first appearance over country at Waverley the son of Captain Bunsby beat two useful horses who filled the place, Kailcawa and Aussie Ra. He had been in the money in three of his previous starts this season, which he ( opened with a win in the Ladies' Bracelet at the Waikato Hunt meeting in October. There will be plenty of opportunities for Hornpipe to carry on with the good work now that he has proved his ability to negotiate the bigger fences. MORRINSVILLE CANDIDATES Both the Morrinsville owned candidates Gar Vaals and Selwyn are recent winners, the first named scor ing at Ellerslie on Easter Monday, and the .latter being victorious in the Hack and Hunters' Steeplechase at Pukekohe. Gar Vaals is by Vaals from Gortyn, by King Soult, while Selwyn is by the Lucullus—Catharina (Soult) six*e Lurina from Gortyn. Both are bred on very solid lines, and should be good propositions for winter contests. A PLANNED HOLIDAY Beau Vite is reported to be enjoying his holiday in Australia.. It is worthy of note that thought has been given to the subject of spelling him, and day by day he is lightly exercised by a capable rider, the reason being that the Beau Pere horsie is likely to become so gross in condition that months would be required to again get him into racing condition. During the present season Beau Vite has won £13,680 5n prize money. A SALE EFFECTED A few short months ago Mr T. H Lowry,. of Havke's Bay, purchased the Foxbridge—Flying Juliet colt for SOOgns. Doubtless on the realisation that lie has numerous thoroughbreds available for the turf, he allowed a friend, Mr Howard Glazebrook, who look a great fancy t-2 the juvenile, to assume the ownership thereof at the same price.
