DRIVING PERILS

WARNING TO MOTORISTS WINTER AND ITS DANGERS "The arrival of colder weather encourages the motorist to adopt protective driving measures which may involve a risk to health as "well ftroad safety" says the latest road safety message of the Automobile Association, Canterbury. "The motorist must be on guard always against the tendency to relax vigilance. Comfort induces drowsiness, particularly at this time of the year, because one wears seasonal clothing,, and there is a tendency' to keep the car proof against rain and wind. The result is a warm atmosphere in the car, a cosiness plus, possible but scarcely perceptible misting of the windscreen and Windows, and then, of course, those other winter threats to safety such as light and shadow, greasy surfaces, unligiUed vehicles, straying stock, careless pedestrians, and so on. "If you feel sleepy pull in off the highway, alight, and get sc-me fresh air. See that your car is not hermetically sealed. Regulate the air supply by the proper use of the windows. Bad air in a car is unhealthy and decidedly unsafe."
