WAIMANA INGLESIDE
WHAKATANE'S GOODWILL VISIT EVENT VERY POPULAR The Waimaua Hall was crowded to the doors on Thursday last when the Whakatane Caledonian Society held a Goodwill Ingleside, and residents from a wide area enjoyed Scottish items and old-time dancing. The starting time of the function was heralded by the Pipe Band which played stirring selections ?n the street,, while as the attendance grew the Chief, Mr W. Simons, extended a welcome to all. The items, which interspersed the programme of dances, were rendered by Mrs T. Burke (Solo, "Grannie's Highland Home"), Mr Colquhoon (solo, "Lords of the Air"), Drummer G. Tweedie (Scottish humour), Miss K. Walton and pupils (Sean T'ruibhias), Misses Nola Rust, Holly Bull, Dora Wardlaw and M. Gillanders, who danced the Irish J'g, Joyce Hodson, Ngaire Mitchell, Alice White and Ann Trotter who performed the Irish Reel, and Nola Rust (Russian dance). During the evening music for extra dances was played by Mr M. Burke, while the programme was capably arranged by the M.C., Drummer .Stan West. Thr music for dancing was supplied bv Mrs Armstrong's orchestra.
