DIVINER, VISITS WHAKATANE
For some time past Mr W. Sullivan has had hopes of finding the.rmal springs at Whakaitane, reasoning: that such a dis- • covery was highly probable, as •at various points surrounding the town such suppliers were • available. Speaking at: a recent " meeting of the Chamber of • Commerce Mr when a discussion in connection with the proposed swimming baths for the school was ensuing, enlightened the meeting of his hopes. On Saturday last the diviner, a * Hamilton resident, in company with Mr Sullivan, the Mayor and others Interested made a search with what • are considered excellent results, and It is hoped that a bore will produce /i srupply of thermal water. Making 'his starting point at the Awaekri "hot springs, the diviner traced the water to Whakatane, where it passed through both the Domain and the school grounds. Probably Hot Water. The underground stream, according to the visitor, was making in ' the direction of White Island and, In view of it taking this direction r and because of the width of the sup--ply, he expressed the opinion that : it is highly probable to be thermal water.
