WAIMANA-NUKUHOU MEETING
The Waimana-Nukuhou Women's Institute hc.ld its monthly meeting in the Hall last Wednesday afternoon, Mrs Hewitt presiding oyer a good attendance of members. The Institute so nil and Ode to Friendship opened the meeting. Ail old member, Mrs Croft. Avas welcomed to the Institute. The jnins iites and usual routine business, was dealt with. A letter Avas read from D. Stubbing (Egypt) wlia lias received t'liu Xmas cake sent from the Institute, the writer stating it was much enjoyed and appreciated. Mrs I. Savage gave a very full re port on the Federation's annual meeting', Avhieh was held recently. It was decided not to give prizes each month for competitions, but points prizes at the end of the year. The next soldiers' parcels are> being packed *ou or about the 2(sth and members are baking the fruit cakes for these. Members brought parcels of clothing for the Lady Galway Guild. Mrs F. Savage demonstrated making children's socks from men's old J ones, and members were, given pat terns.. Tlie roll call was Sewing or knitting hints, and some very helpful hints were exchanged. Setveral vocal choruses were: rendered b3 r the senior and junior pupils of the school and very much appreciated by all; Mrs: Hewitt thanking Miss Wragge and pupils. The afternoon's competitions Avert? as follows: Best Flower. Mrs C. white 1 (Oriental Poppy); Mrsi I. Savage 2; Mrs Woollield 3. Best Vegetable: Mrs F. Bell 1 '(Silver Beet); Mrs Hughes 2 (Betins); Mrs I. Savage 3 (Lettuce). Garment: Mrs I. Savage 1; Mirs, K. 801 l 2; Mrs Black 3. Three best Potatoes : Mrs Hewitt 1; Mrs F. Hell 2; Mrs I. Savage 3. The; judges were. Mrs Taylor and Mrs Croft. A dainty tea Avas served by the hostesses and the meeting closed with the singing of the National Anthem, WHAKATANE MEETING There was a good attendance) oi members at the May meeting of the Institute held on Tuesday last,. After the opening ot' the meeting Avith the Institute song, and the reading of the Aspirations by the president, the minutes Avere read and confirmed . Arrangements Avere made to conduct the Blind Institute! stall at the Winter Slioav as in previous years. Mrs StCAvart is to take charge. It was also decided to hold an Institute stall, for Avhicli the full support of the members Avas solicited. Plenty of volunteers Avere forthcoming to take charge on various days. Mrs Yeoman, delegate to the Bi-. Annual Council meeting held recently, read a very interesting report on business dealt Avith. On Friday, 9th May, the Institute ladies are responsible for stocking and running the Red Gross Shop, mid volunteer:; Avere plentiful for this Avork also. A glove making demonstration by Mrs Stewart was appreciated by members, and, also a wool-grafting demonstration by Mrs Wheeler. Competitions during the afternoon uero Avon by : Variety of six sunall cakes from one mixture : Mrs Butler 1; Mrs Print 2. Thrift article: Mrs Hills 1; Mrs Moran 2. Best Flo Aver : Mrs King 1. It was decided to enter the, competition far Institute Court as in previous years, arrangements being left in the hands of MesdaimM Berry, Cairns, Murphy and Moran. The afternoon closed with the singing of "God Defend New Zealand."
