STORAGE OF FLOUR

WHEAT COMMITTEE'S ARRANGEMENTS

DECENTRALISATION OF FOOD

A representative of the Wheat Committee called at Whakatane last week in the course of a tour of the Dominion, which he is making with a view to obtaining storage for flour in each centre. This move is being made with the object of having emergency supplies in the event of any dislocation of transport or other eventuality.

While in Whakatane he expressed the intention of obtaining, if possible, storage for about 50 tons of flour in this town, which Avould keep bakers supplied for six week,? in the event of the necessity. While conditions were running smoothly tiie bakers and sitorcs would draw their supplies from the central store in the quantities which suit their Usual requirements, thus keeping the stock moving and making way for fresh supplies.

Probably later a request will b« made to bakers and others to make arrangements to hold a bigger supply in stock, while it is also likely that housewives will be approached to keep a larger domestic supply.
