IMPRESSMENT OF TRUCK
COUNTY COUNCIL'S DIFFICULTIES REPRESENTATIONS TO MINISTER Considerable inconvenience has resulted from the action of the Government in impressing for Defonce purposes a vehicle belonging to the County Council. In order that some safeguard might be given with regard to the future the Minister of Transport was written to and asked to indicate whether there was a likelihood of further County trucks being required. In reply the Minister stated that no definite assurance can be given regarding further impressment of council's vehicles although licensing authority would take into consideration all factors mentioned. Every endeavour was being made to minimise inconvenience and ensure maintenance of essential services. The Clerk -stated that Inspector Carling's truck had since been inspected., and there was a strong possibility that it would be impressed in the near future. Cr Spence pointed out that the council would be in a very serious position if all the fast trucks were impressed and only the heavy-slow-er ones leftThe, Chairman : I understand that the New Zealand Motor Alliance is taking steps to allocate vehicles, so much to the Army, so much to the Home Guard and so much to the E.P.S. It was finally resolved that No. 4 truck, 1934 model, which lias not proved suitable for work in the Engineer's department be transferred to the Inspector's department and that representations be made to the No. 1 Licensing Authority, and the Hon. Minister of Transport objecting to the l impressment of what was formerly the Inspector's modern 15 cwt Ford V 8 truck which truck is now in the service of the Engineer's department, as a replacement of such department's l.'cwt truck which was impressed last month.
