OUR EXCHANGE

IS there any way of co-operating with the postal authorities in order to effect some improvement in the exchange service ? The present state of affairs is growing so exasperating to subscribers that one hears complaints on all sides. Important calls appear to be delayed, cut off and generally interfered with giving rise to frayed tempers, and considerable waste of valuable time. The average person realises that the postal authorities are operating under the greatest difficulties at the present time, their depleted staffs being burdened with increasing responsibilities, but surely there must be some cure for the deplorable state of the service as it exists to-day. While not desiring to emphasise the rights of the subscribers to a service which they are paying heavily for, we feel that by raising the question now we are ventilating- an opinion which .is general throughout the town, and by thus drawing attention to it, may even be assisting the local authorities in their plea to headquarters for an increase in the number of experienced operators.
