RESULT OF FEUD
SHAREMILKER FINED gate barricaded Once more Kirltbride's Road, a .. road which has provided the County Council with many lengthy discussions and has from time to time appeared in the news, was heard of when at the local Magistrate's Court held yesterday, William. Thomas, a sharemilker employed by Mr T. W. Wardlaw, appeared charged- with blocking a public road io that he fastened with chains and wire a roadway and thus prevented a right-of-way.
In prosecuting, Sergeant M. Farrell stated that the offence was the - result of a fued between two farm- - c-rs which was of long standing. During the absence of Mr Wardlaw, by whom he was employed, Thomas had chained and wired the gate so that it could not be opened, -and. Mr Kirkbride had had to break - the gate to get to his farm.
Sergeant Farrell stated that it ap- : jpeared that Thomas had had provocation for his act, the gate hav-i-ing been left open on occasionsso that the cows wandered. was in fact, the victim of between his employer and his neighbour, Mr Kirkbride, Appearing for the defendant, Mr - G. Otley stated that the facts given by the Sergeant were correct. The defendant and his employer had suffered considerable inconvenience as a result of this gate being left unfastened.
The Magistrate stated that he AA T ould take into consideration the provocation and made the penalty a fine of 10s Avith costs 10s. He added, hoAvever, that if the defendant offended again in a similar manner the penalty would be great-
