WOMEN'S INSTITUTE

WAIMANA MEETING

The monthly meeting of the Women's Institute was held in the Waimana Hall on Wednesday, April 2, the new President Mrs G. Hewitt, being in the chair.

The agenda for the annual council meeting of the Eastern Bay of Plenty Federation to be held on April 18 was received, and Mrs Hewitt and-Mrs I. Savage were appointed as delegates. The remits were well discussed and the delegates instructed.

Mrs T. Ward]aw, president of the Lady Galway Guild, appealed for summer cloths and blankets.

Mrs H. Wardlaw, chairman of the W.W.S.A., asked if the Institute would affiliate but it was decided to take 110 action as yet.

Mrs Hewitt read the balance sheet of the Talent competition for the Federation Patriotic funds which resulted in £4 Is 2d being handed to the Federation.

Mrs Black read the balance sheet of the Show which showed more en-

tries than last year and a profit of £6 9s 4d.

Word was received from Pte. E>. Cain that he had received his parcel in good order and expressing his thanks for the same.

The committee will be as follows: Mesdames Gallagher, Marra, Wylde K. Bell, T. Wardlaw, Black, J. Addison, F. Savage, I. Savage, E. Bell nnd H. Wardlaw.

There were two new brides enrolled as members.

The competitions resulted as fol» lows:—Best Flower: Mrs H. Bell 1 Mrs F. Bell 2, Mrs Woolfield 3 Darned Sock: Mrs Hewitt 1, Mrs I. Savage 2. Bunch of Grapes: Mrs Black 1, Mrs Stevenson 2, Mrs I. Savage 3. Best Vegetable: Mrs F. Bell 1, Mrs Black 2, Mrs H. Wardlaw 3. At the conclusion of the business, Mrs K, Bell took over as it was Members' Day. She opened her programme »with community singing and followed by a Mintie competition, which was won by Miss M. Hughes and Mrs T. Savage. Mrs Jerram gave a humorous Scotch read ing which was much enjoyed by all The meeting then closed with thf singing of the National Anthem.
