EXPORT KILLINGS TO MID MARCH
Kxport killings at tlio Dominion'.--freezing works from Ist OetolHM lo IT)tli March last, show a total of 7,828,107 freight carcases, which according to the-official statement of the New Zealand Meat Producers Board, is 9fi7,023 in excess of killings in the corresponding period of the previous season, to the nearest comparable date. North Island production was 5.482,208 freight carcascs, compared with 5,045,145 and South Island. 2,346,199 compared with 1,816,239 in the previous season to March 16, 1940.
Lamb" killings have readied a total of 7,675,978 or 942,295 carcases above that of the previous season. Ewe killings have increased by 183' 453 carcases to a total of 1,149,705 but there was a decline of 358,552 in killings of wethers, this season's total being 391,928. Details of lamb and mutton production to March 15 with the corresponding figures for the previous season in parentheses are as follows:— North Island Wether mutton 351,598 ( 696,332) Ewes 811,095 ( 787.111) Lambs 4,416,370 (4,078,955) South Island! Wether mutton 40,330 ( 54,148) Ewes 338,610 ( 179,111) Lamb 3,259,608 (2,654,728) Frozen beef production has reached 236,006 quarters compared with 123,111. Porker killings (46,249 in the North Island, and 2263 in the South) total 48,512 showing an increase of 28,077 carcases. Baconer killings were as follows: North Island 240,072 (compared with 204,887); South Island 7181 (5571) an increase this season of 36,793 carcases. Killings of choppers total 9768 being an increase of 2522. Killings of other classes of meat expressed in 601b freight carcases were as follows, with the figures for the previous season to approximately the same date, shown in parentheses:—
