LOCAL SCOTS MUSTER

FURTHER ENJOYABLE' PROGRAMME Kilt and bagpipes were to the fore last Friday evening when the Whakatane Caledonian Society staged its March Ingleside in the Winter Show Hall. As usual there was a splendid attendance and a programme of dancing interspersed avUli popular items met with general approval. Chief Simons was piped to tin: dais by Pipe-Sergeant D. Paterson, and accorded the applause of the assemblage. Thereafter the proceedings Avere in the capable hands of the Society's M.C. Drummer Stan West. Music for the dancing was supplied by Mrs Armstrong's orcVn estra, the Pipe Band also supplying several items for the more Scottish numbers. Items were given as under : Exhibition dance, Betty Flavill (Irish Washerwoman): Solo, Miss M. Raymond 'Does Your Mother Come from' Ireland'; Exhibition dance, Phyllis Rivett (Sean Trubhais); Novelty dance, Isobel Martin; Tap dance. Misses Ruby and Jean Howat. The Highland Fling was danced by a group of local lassies who also won popular applause. One of the most appreciated dances Avas the Log Cabin, to the music of the marching song, composed by Whakatane's OAvn composer, Mr Ernest Armstrong. The choruses were supplied by Messrs Paterson and West. Supper was in the capable hands of a ladies committee of Avhicli Mrs J. Martin Avas the commoner. This important part of the evening was carried out with a quickness and despatch Avhich left nothing to he desired, and Avas completed in three sittings. In the hall itself dancing continued in the same happy vein till Avell past midnight Avhen the croAvd dispersed AA'ith the singing of Auld Lang Syne. INGLESIDE AT TANEATUA

ARRANGEMENTS FOR MONDAY NEXT In, pursuance of its circuit of 'goodwill Inglesides' in the county districts the Society will hold it ! s Taneatua fixture on Monday evening next (April 7). All arrangements have now been completed and it is anticipated that the programme should he a particularly good one which will attract people from all parts of the district.
