RAGING NOTES
ANOTHER FOR AUSTRALIA The Manawatu owned Omapo has been sold to an Australian sportsman. An elder brother, Haeropo, was purchased for Queensland last year, and has made good there. A PARTNERSHIP Messrs R. and Alex Stead, of Hastings, have decided to race the Gynerium—Lady Ball filly in part" nership. She is reported to be showing plenty of quality, and is fairly well grown for a juvenile. TO LEAVE FOR INDIA The Beau Pere three year old, Sir Beau, has been sold to an Indian Prince, and will be shipped from these shores at an early date. His speed cannot be called into question,, but he is not especially partial to hard tracks. FOR WINTER EVENTS The Tidal fielding, Tidewaiter, who has been off the scene for several months, was a contestant at the recent Stratford meeting where he registered a third. He is intended for hurdle racing in the winter, and in this department should be a payable proposition. A PROMISING CANDIDATE One of the most promising hacks in the Waikato district is Mr M. H. Tims' Toavii Survey by Surveyor—> Marbletown. He gallops well on firm going, and judging by the manner in which he accounted for the Waikino Handicap at Paeroa, is quite at home under muddy conditions. THE IMPROVED SHARMIN That recent racing has materially improved the Bulandshar three year old filly Sharmin, was amply proven by the manner in which she won at Tauranga. The racing track was on the wet side, and the field a big one. Her finishing effort was full of merit.
A HURDLER OF MERIT The DanilofT —All Red marc representative Parekura, a winner over hurdles at Paeroa and Tauranga, is trained by W. G. Stephens, of Rotorua, who principal winners last season were Kena and Teacony. Parekura has been through a course of jumping at hunt meets, so he is still forward in respect to jumping capability. CLARION CALL WELL Racing on the flat at Stratford was Clarion Call who is being prepared for winter steeplechase events. He is to be among the contestants at the Waikato Winter meeting in May. He knows the Te Rapa country lay out well, and generally gets "in«to the money" there. A southern writer states he already looks like "a million dollars." A GREAT WINNER The Australian champion, A'jax, recently retired from the tuif won over £40,000 in stakes. Realising 6500 guineas at public auction this month he was secured by Mr W. J. Smith, owner of Beau Perc. Publicity is now being given to the opin ion that Ajax never beat a good horse but the answer that might reasonably be expected would be to the effect that he defeated his opponents for at least three seasons, and if there were good horses he did not meet their owners may have thought "discretion the bettev part of valour," and deemed it advisable to fit their candidates against something easier.
the northern champagne It is expected that a feature of the Northern Champagne Stakes at Ellerslie on Easter Saturday will be the meeting of the Auckland champion two year old, Route March, and- the Wanganui filly Premature, a recent Avinner at Trentham and AAA-apuni. On St. Patrick's Day at Paeroa Route March 10.0 went down by a nose to Hogarth 7.2, but the track AA'as heavy, and if ridden right out a defeat might have been registered. It is quite "on the cards" that northern sportsmen AA'ill again pin their faith to Route March, while there AA'ill be plenty of Wellington and Wanganui money to back up the chances of the speedy Premature.
