Business people have fallen in with the requests of the Emergency Precautions Committee expeditiously and before long, after having given a reasonable time lor precautions to be taken and having assisted bj r making inspections, the committee will have the town lighting in the restricted conditions asked for by the central authorities. Public Considered. In bringing the regulations into operation the Mayor of Whakatane, Mr B. S. Barry, and the chairman of the County Council, Mr J. L. Burnett, have expressed their desire to inconvenience the public av> little as possible, and this has been done at the same time the officials responsible exerting themselves to bring about an efficient scheme.
Speaking at the County Council meeting last week Mr Burnett said: "We wish to enlist the co-opcration of the community in falling in with the scheme and ish to put the public to as little inconvenience as possible. We do not wish them to be subjected to a big expense." He added that the initial reductions of lighting in the town had been fairly effective, and expressed the hope that householders .would also render every assistance.
