RAGING NOTES
BEAU PERE IN AMERICA When Beau Pere was recently very bright. TRAVELLING SOUTH The steeplechasers. Hanover and Riotous, have been nominated for jumping events at the Riverton meeting. The latter is now 13 years of age, so is on the list of his Dominion veterans. ABANDONED The Waipukurau Racing Club which recently sustained the loss of grandstand and other buildings by (ire, has decided to abandon its autumn meeting this year. There will probably be a rush of applications for the permit; KING REY'S PROSPECTS Judging by King Rey's second to Merry Vaals last week in the Flying Handicap at Tauranga, it is quite likcty that he may be prominent during' the winter in hurdle events. He still maintains his pace, is sound in wind and limb, while his gameness is still beyond question. IMPORTED FROM ENGLAND Empire Rose, winner of the first division of the Trial Plate at Tauranga, is owned and trained by Alex Cook, of Te Awamutu. She is by the English sire Empire Builder, from Noneen Phu and as a four-year-old next season should race prominently in open company. ANOTHER SURVEYOR WINNER The second division of the Trial Plate at the Bay of Plenty meeting, Golden Survey, is a member of W. Townsend's team at Cambridge. He is by Surveyor from Golden Comet, by Day Comet, therefore a ciosc relative to one of the best hacks in the Auckland, province, Chain Acre, who is in the same stable. A FORTUNATE PURCHASE The winner of the Alf Brown Memorial at Tauranga, Mayfair, was only recently purchased by Messrs Otway Bros., of Cambridge, from Mrs R. T. Reid. She soon returned a goodly portion of her purchase money, and now that she has struck winning form may score again in the near future. A WINTER CANDIDATE The Ace gelding Urcklaw, made his first appearance in public this season at the Bay of Plenty meeting. He was looking just a little on the Mg side but nevertheless hard and muscular. He showed pace and jumping ability in the early stages of his race, and may be performing prominently before long.
PERSEVERANCE REWARDED After registering seconds in Cup races at Paeroa and Gate Pa, the l-.urdler, High Delight, prevailed in the Herries Memorial on Monday, defeating Wildore, Gold Vaals and others. He is owned by Mir G. R. Powell, of Whangarei, and is by the Catmint sire Delightment, a descendant of tlie famous Carbine. A FINE PEDIGREE Throughout this season the Manawatu owned Rakanui has been acclaimed one of the best hacks in the Wellington province, and his victory in the Champion Hack Cup at Trentham this month substantiated the claims of his fanciers. On the score of breeding there is no reason why he should not also be a top rank open handicap performer, for he is by Hunting Song from Golden Opportunity by Psychology—Oreum by King John—Desert Gold. Rakanui should certainly be a great stayer. RAGING FIXTURES 27, 29—Hawke's Bay Joplcey Club 29—Bircliwood Hunt Club 29—Waimata Racing Club.
