Mr Robert Fraser, of Ohope, has been asked to stand for election for the riding of Taneatua (which includes Ohope) at the next County Council election. The death 9ccurred on Monday at the Hamilton Hospital of a highly esteemed resident of Whakatane. Mr H. G. Rand, at the age of 51 years. A full obituary notice will appear in our next issue. At a meeting of the Executive Committee of the Winter Show Association held oit Monday night members stood in silence as a' mark of respect to the late Mr H. G,, Rand, who passed away that day The chairman, Mr A. J. Canning, referred to the long and valuable service given the Association by Mr Rand and spoke of the loss it would mean to both the organisation and the members personally that he had passed away.
