BIG INCREASE IN AUSTRALIA The first completely Australianmade Bren gun tripod has beien turned out at a munition annexe of an Australian General Electric factory. Production is well under way. Installation ef machine tools began only seven months ago. It is a dual purpose tripod, and enables the gun to be mounted at the standing position for anti-air-craft fire, or fired from a sitting or prone position for defensive fire. The gun can quickly be detached from the tripod for use from the hip or shoulder in attack. Special elevating and traversing gear enables tlie gun to be aimed with deadly accuracy from the ground position. Quickly adjustable legs enable the tripod to conform .to rough ground. The tripod comprises lfil parts and f>oo operations, of which 418 arc machine tool operations, are required to produce it.
