The latter has not yet shone to advantage, but may only require further time in which to fully furnish. YOGI'S RECOVERY
It is reported from Hawke's Bay that Yogi has made a satisfactory recoverj% and is joining the active members of Mr Frank Ormond's team at Hastings. It will be remembered that this time last year there Avas an Australian enquiry for the purchase of Yogi, and the reply of the owner was that 10,000 guineas would not buy him. ARVAKLR'S PROGRESS The racing at Te Aroha apparently had the effect of livening' up the Beau Pere representative. Arvakur, ivho was a very close second, to a good sprinter in Suleiman, at Takanini during I lie past week he lia> been reeling off. sprints in fast times. At the Auckland Easter 15x-« turc he should get into the winning list. GAY ROSETTE WITHDRAWN
' Some perturbation was caused in sporting circ'.es on Wednesday ■when the news came hand to the elfeot that Gay Rosette had been scratched for the Ohinemuri Cup,, for which she was tlie nominal favourite. Keen interest will be taken by sportsmen in respect to Belle Cane and Gay Rosette. A WIN FOR PARCHMENT Apparently the English bred Parchment, who competed unsuccessfully at the Waikato and To Arolia meetings, benefitted by tlie northern trip. At Taranaki he prevailed in the Hack Handicap in a weak field. The previous week there were Wellington sporting writers suggesting that if Parchment did not win that particular race,, no time should be lost in shipping him back to the land of his birth. A STRUGGLING INSTITUTION The Taranaki-Carterton Racing Club, established 70 years ago, is experiencing a decidedly lean time. For its meeting last week its acceptance list was one of 57 horses, several of which had double engagements. The totalizator turnover for the day meeting was £4602, an average of £575 per race.
