BEACH ROAD
MOVEMENT FOR TAR-SEALING
REPRESENTATIONS TO P.W.D
Further representations are to> be made by the Borough Council with a view to having Beach Road tar-sealed. "When the council received a letter from the Chamber of Commerce on Monday evening urging the improvement and ultimate tarsealing of this portion of road. the Mayor explained the position to the councillors. His Worship said that to make application to the Public Works Department for a subsidy to assist the sealing of beach road was a matter which could Avell be pressed further. He stated that with the foreman he had inspected the road and it had some time ago been prepared for sealing and now to maintain it in that order was causing worry. He was of the opinion that the sealing of the road would save considerable work % and expense. Pointing out that a part of the grade was 1 in 6.5, His Worship stated that the surface thus received terrific wear and tear and water damage. He felt that the costs of maintenance would be greatly reduced if the sealing work was done,, and moved that further representations be made to the PIW.D. He concluded that the whole of the widening work had been done with the exception of one small part. Councillor W. Sullivan spoke in agreement being of the opinion that, even if ill the road could not at present be scaled, the Council should endeavour to have part of it done. He also agreed that to have the road sealed] would mean a saving of money in the long run. The motion was carried unanimously.
