OHOPE BEACH ROAD
* Sir, —I in tend to sign, a petition sponsored by reputable citizens of the district begging the County Council to consider well the advisability of ruining the Show Place of Ohope by constructing a road through Mr Runnertsrum's proper ty. I spend part of the summer each year at Ohope and can voice the opinions of a great many visitors that "This thing of beauty is joy forever." • Quite apart .mont its picturesque setting this gardenNjonlains an excellent collection of rare trees and; shrubs from every part of the world. I admit that roads are very necessary, but will the formation, of a very small piece of roadway benefit the majority of the residents or compensate for the loss of this little bit of Paradise. Even Adolpn Hitler favoured an expensive dietour in preference to removing a beautiful tree. Perhaps this protest savours of sentiment, but ovir nation has lost so much of its priceless art treasures and historical beauty spots through the "Blitz," that it is up to us to preserve, and perhaps accumulate what we can of th£ things of beauty. Yours etc., JOAN CITIZEN.
